Science Fair update:
All departments are getting involved in this year’s science fair. The Language Arts classes are helping with
research and writing, the math classes will be creating graphs and all
classes will help put together display boards. All
displays will be put together at school.
The only work done at home will be the actual experiment. |

As the holidays rapidly approach, a
“movie” of Christmas past plays in my head.
The trees were perfect, the kitchen filled with delicious smells of
freshly baked cookies, the children were always dressed in holiday outfits
and cheerfully playing. Like I said,
that is the movie version! Too often
we set ourselves up for failure by expecting too much of the holiday, thus
the high rate of depression during this season. What I hope we each strive for is to make
this time special for our families.
The best gift we can give each other is the gift of time and
communication. Spend time with the
ones you love and tell them how important they are to you. CR |
Counselor’s Corner Our 6th grade students just wrapped up the Life skills, Initiative and Common Sense. Character awards are given Friday to students taking initiative in helping others and those using common sense to figure out a problem. Our 5th grade students just completed the Life skill, Courage. Character Awards were presented last week for students who have made courageous decisions. We are now learning about the Life skill, Caring. Tis’ the season to show how much you care for others! Find award names on line. Continue talking to your children about these skills and encourage them to use their character traits daily. We’re always looking for students with good character. |

I recently read the Operation Rudolph list and
let me say, God bless everyone who participates in this wonderful
cause. My nephew is stationed in Cathy Olsen |

Looking
at how learning occurs in art and sports may be useful. Few basketball players ask to be taken out
of the game once they make their 20 points.
Few actors want the smallest role possible. So students should not aim to get a passing
grade but to do the best they can. |
Kailey Nodine had the
closest guess for last week’s puzzler!

The cafeteria staff would like
to thank Ms. McDade and her students for creating
our fireplace and Christmas tree. The
children love seeing it and we are getting into the Christmas spirit. Happy Holidays from the Cafeteria Staff. |
The Puzzler #2: On Nov. 14, 1889,
Nellie Bly set off on a trip around the world. Her goal was to make the trip in less than Phileas Fogg’s fictional 80 day
trip. It took 72 days, 6 hours, 11
min. 14 sec. to make the trip. How
much quicker was her trip than Fogg’s? |

Traits: There are two ways to live
your life. One is as if nothing is a
miracle, the other is as if everything is a miracle. Einstein We are not what we think we are, but what we think, we are. |
In
Oct. and Nov., the PTO brought snacks, appetizers, and desserts for the BSIS
faculty. All was delicious! Many thanks to these volunteers.

The Puzzler # 1: The front wheels of
a tractor have a diameter of 2 feet; the back wheels have a diameter of 3
feet. If the tractor travels 1 mile, how
many more complete rotations will a front wheel make than a back wheel? 280 rotations - The front wheels have 2-foot diameters
so using C= pi time d, its circumference is 2pi. Each back wheel has a 3 foot diameter, so the
circumference is 3pi. One mile is 5,280
feet so the number of rotations of each wheel will be 528 feet divided by
circumference or for the back wheel, 840 rotations and fro the front 560
rotations. The difference between the
two is 280 rotations.
Puzzler # 2: Carla used a total of 157 digits as she wrote a list of consecutive integers. If the last number she wrote was 140, what was the first number in her list? 83. Each of the numbers from 100 on have 3 digits. There are 41 numbers in that set so 41 x 3 = 123 digits used there leaving 34 digits. The numbers that came before have 2 digits each, hence the list must have 34 / 2 = 17 two digit numbers before the number 100, thus the first number she wrote was 83.
