These must be approved by READING teachers BEFORE Thursday. No face paint, hair spray paint, or masks are allowed. Costumes must meet dress code. Friday, November 16- Members of our community will come in to read to our students. A different guest reader will be here for each reading period. Other activities all week in each reading class room.	The amount of time a child spends reading is highly correlated with the scores he/she receives on tests. Strategies that will improve reading: 1) Visualize: make mental pictures or sensory images 2) make connections: connect to own experience, to events in the world, to other reading 3) Ask questions: actively wonder, question the text 4) Infer: predict, hypothesize, interpret, draw conclusions 5) Evaluate: determine importance, make judgments 6) self-monitor: recognize and act on confusion, uncertainty, attention problems.	Schools are always in the public eye, not only by parents, but by groups like SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) and the Red Carpet committee. We are proud of our school, our staff, our students. We have wonderful custodians who spend hours each day keeping our facility sparkling clean and we work to help them in that enormous job. One way you, too, can help is in the parking lot. No, we can’t save the world, but we can keep our property clean. Of course, don’t litter, but be proactive as well. We appreciate your help.	6^th grade’s student council penny war is over. Students did a fantastic job bringing in coins raising over $1400 for the Upstate Family Resource Center. The winning pod was pod 2 with over $500! The winning homerooms were: pod 1 – Mrs. Sullivan, pod 2 – Mr. Wilkie, pod 3 – Mrs. Lyda, pod 4 – Mrs. Medley. Our next project will be a Clemson vs. Carolina canned food drive. Students bring nonperishable food items and place it in their team’s box. Who will win? We all win by helping local families enjoy a Thanksgiving meal! The food drive will run from November 12 – 20, Clemson/Carolina day where students will be encouraged to show support by wearing their teams’ colors! Show team pride - bring in cans! The Down to Earth Guide to Global Warming - Are you doing your part? Tip 6: Watch for Running Water – dripping faucets, running water as you brush your teeth or wash items. Consider even reusing some water – for your plants! Tiger Traits: Zoom in/ out – focus on the details, the look at the big picture.
	We are always proud to honor students who put forth the effort to excel. Last Friday we honored those who make to effort to be present every day, those who are present all day, every day, those maintaining A averages and A/B averages as well as those Terrific Kids honored for effort and improvement. Local companies have generously donated gift certificates for these special students (If your coupon says it is only for children 10 and under, please ignore. These will be honored.) Consumer Affairs Warns about “Not-So-Free” Credit Report Websites

Columbia, SC….. The South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs (SCDCA) encourages people to check their credit reports annually. This is an important way consumers can safeguard against Identity Theft, Credit Fraud or Unauthorized charges, and check for errors or inaccuracies that can affect a credit decision.

Legislation that became effective in South Carolina June 1, 2005, gives consumers the right to receive a FREE copy of their credit report once a year. However, if ordering your credit report online, consumers are warned to stay away from misleading websites claiming to offer free credit reports, then enrolling the unsuspecting consumer in a monthly reporting service costing $11.95 each month. SCDCA has received numerous complaints from consumers who are further victimized when emails trying to cancel the service go unanswered and the websites offer no information on cancellation.

The only official website offering free credit reports is www.annualcreditreport.com, according to Brandolyn Thomas Pinkston, SCDCA Administrator. “It’s an important part of your personal safety to check your credit report annually,” she said, “but consumers need to be sure they’re going to the right site and not placing themselves at risk for unwanted payments and schemes that are difficult to cancel.” Pinkston added that consumers can also call toll free to receive a free copy of their credit report (1.877.322.8228), or by contacting any of the three official credit reporting agencies: Equifax, Experian, or Trans Union.

What Consumers Should Look for on Their Credit Report

· Your personal information – Are the addresses or variations of your name incorrect?

· Statements of credit accounts – Are there credit card accounts or other debts that are not familiar to you?

· Potentially negative entries – Are there unpaid debts listed on accounts you never opened?

· Public record information – Is this information accurate?
